प्रकृति में कुछ ऐसी अद्भुत चीजें हैं जो हमारे सोचने की क्षमता से परे हैं। ऐसी ही एक है Common Swift (कॉमन स्विफ्ट) — एक ऐसी चिड़िया जो लगभग कभी भी जमीन पर नहीं उतरती।
वैज्ञानिकों के अनुसार, यह पक्षी एक बार उड़ान भरने के बाद लगातार 10 महीने तक आसमान में रह सकता है, बिना जमीन को छुए।
कैसे संभव है 10 महीने तक हवा में रहना?
कॉमन स्विफ्ट की बॉडी स्ट्रक्चर नेचर द्वारा इतनी परफेक्टली डिजाइन की गई है कि यह आसानी से लंबे समय तक उड़ान बनाए रखती है।
इसकी पंखों की लंबाई और हल्का वजन इसे लगातार ग्लाइड करने में मदद करते हैं।
स्विफ्ट्स ऊंचाई पकड़कर हवा के साथ ग्लाइड करते हैं जिससे उन्हें बार-बार पंख नहीं हिलाने पड़ते और ऊर्जा की बचत होती है।
हवा में खाना और पानी पीना
यह पक्षी हवा में उड़ते-उड़ते ही कीड़ों-मकौड़ों को पकड़कर खा लेता है।
जब यह किसी नदी या झील के ऊपर से गुजरता है, तो यह नीचे झुककर अपने पंख फैलाते हुए पानी पी लेता है।
यानी इसे अपनी ज़िंदगी में लगभग कभी रुकने की ज़रूरत नहीं पड़ती।

सबसे दिलचस्प बात यह है कि यह हवा में ही सो सकता है!
स्विफ्ट ऊंचाई पर पहुंचकर आधे ब्रेन को स्लीप मोड में डाल देता है जबकि बाकी आधा ब्रेन उड़ान को कंट्रोल करता रहता है।
इसे ही “Unihemispheric Sleep” कहा जाता है — यानी एक दिमाग सोता है और दूसरा जागता है।
हवा में मेट करना (Air Mating)
कॉमन स्विफ्ट का मेटिंग बिहेवियर भी बेहद यूनिक है।
यह हवा में ही अपने साथी के साथ मेट करता है।
यह दृश्य इतना दुर्लभ होता है कि इसे कैमरे में कैद करना बेहद कठिन है।
नेचर के इस डिज़ाइन ने इसे वाकई में “Sky Bird” बना दिया है।
कमजोरी – जमीन पर उतरना खतरनाक!
हालांकि यह पक्षी आसमान का बादशाह है, लेकिन इसकी सबसे बड़ी कमजोरी है जमीन।
इसकी टांगे इतनी कमजोर होती हैं कि अगर यह गलती से जमीन पर उतर जाए, तो दोबारा उड़ान भरना मुश्किल हो जाता है।
यही कारण है कि यह लगभग अपनी पूरी जिंदगी हवा में ही बिताता है।
